The Wise Men! Matthew 2:1-12 In Bethlehem of Judea, king Herod was ruler and priest Magi came from Jerusalem following the star from the east. “Where is one born King of the Jews? We have seen and followed his star And we have come to worship Him as we bring our gifts from afar!” King Herod was deeply disturbed, and he asked his scribes if they knew The exact place the child was born and if what the Magi said was true. “It is written by the prophets.” The chief scribe told Herod the news. In Bethlehem of Judea! A child will be born King of the Jews.” “Go and make a search for the child.” King Herod said to the Magi. “When you find Him, report to me. I must go worship Him on high.” After the Magi heard the king, they journeyed and the star once more, Went before them to Bethlehem leading the way as before. When they came into the stable, for this is where the star had led The child was with Mary his mother. It was as the prophets had said. They bowed themselves to worship Him and presented their gifts that day Of gold, frankincense and myrrh, then departed and went their way. And divinely warned in dream not to report to Herod the great, As they were returning to their own land they began to speculate! Are we wise as the men of old? Do we seek to follow His star? The men of old found a manger. We have something better by far. Today the star leads to a cross. And to the hill called Calvary. It was a Savior who died there. He did this all for you and me. The manger foreshadowed the cross and the hill upon which it stood And to the one who gave His life. Crucified on that cross of wood. The babe who lay in the manger was God in flesh come down to earth And by His grace He has saved us and given to us a new birth. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy!
