ADAM AND EVE IN THE GARDEN They walked together in the garden. God was pleased with what He had done. It was a very lovely garden. The man and his wife became one. They were happy in the garden. They were naked and knew no shame. For God was watching over them. Each morning and evening they same. Because they were made in His image, God cared for them tenderly. And God talked to them in the garden. They walked and talked in harmony. Of every tree in the garden God told them they were free to partake. But the center tree was forbidden! To eat its fruit would be a mistake. Now enter the ole fiery serpent!! He had been watching her is disguise! He said to her so cunningly, “Tell me! Would God not have you be wise?” “Indeed! Is it true? Has God really said you must not eat the fruit of tree? In the center of the garden! It’s very lovely don’t you agree?” “We may eat the fruit of any tree.” The woman told the tempter. “It’s true But the center tree we must not touch. God said we will die if we do.” “You must open your eyes!” Satan said. “For God has told you a lie For in the day you eat the fruit, God knows you surely will not die.” The fruit was ever so lovely! It was fresh and lovely to her touch. The tempter was now delighted for now he had her in his clutch! When she had tempted her husband their eyes were opened and they knew That they were standing there naked. Everything God had said was true. The man and his wife hid from God when they heard the sound of His voice They hid because they were naked. They knew they had made a wrong choice. The Lord God called out to the man! “Why are you trying to hid from me? And who told you that you were naked? Did you eat the fruit from the tree?” “The woman deceived me!” Said the man. “She told me if I ate I’d be wise The fruit was ever so lovely. But I know now it was all lies.” Then the Lord God asked the woman, “Why have you done this to your mate?” “The serpent tricked!” Said the woman. “He gave me the fruit and I ate!” So the Lord God told the serpent, “Because you have plotted to deceive man You are cursed above all the livestock and now I will tell you my plan!” You shall crawl around on your belly. You shall eat dirt the rest of your life. >From now on you and the woman will continue to have strife!” “The woman will always fear you and because of your dastardly deed I will put enmity between you and the woman and your seed and her seed.” And then God said unto the woman, “You shall always bear children in pain. Your desire shall be for your husband and his rule over you shall remain.” And to the man the Lord God said, “And because you listened to your wife I have placed a curse upon the soil. You will struggle all of your life! It will grow thorns and thistles for you and you shall eat the plants of the field But only by the sweat of your brow will you eat the food that it will yield.” “And then you will return to the ground for from the ground is where you came.” Now Adam called his wife Eve (meaning life giving one”) Eve is her name. The Lord God clothed Adam and Eve with garments made of animal skin And said, “Now that man has become like Us and knowing that evil is sin He must not be allowed to reach out and take the fruit from the Tree of Life. If he did he would live forever!” So God banished the man and his wife. Therefore God sent him out of Eden. God sent him out to work the land The land from which he was taken to cultivate it at God’s command. God put angels in the garden after He drove out the man and his wife And a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the entrance to the Tree of Life. Genesis 3:1-24 |
