TO TARA
by Pastor Dale Freeman
I vividly remember the first moment I saw you. We had driven to Seattle, been whisked
upward into the heart of a stately tower by an efficient elevator, and had waited nervously
in a room designed for that purpose. Then, without too much fanfare, a woman stepped
through the doors and delivered a tightly wrapped bundle into my trembling arms.
I had never been a father before that moment. In an instant I became one, and my life was
changed forever. I looked into the face of my beloved daughter, and I began a
relationship that would enrich me for the rest of my life.
You’re grown, married, and a mother to your own children now. You don’t need Dad
like you used to. I realize that. But, please know that I am still your father in the richest
sense of the word. I love you with all of my heart...and I always will.
I looked into your sparkling eyes and glimpsed a life worth living;
I held your tiny wrinkled hand and made promises worth giving.
More than simple flesh and blood, a kinship born of old.
I gave you more than life, my love, I gave you heart and soul.
Love,
Dad
