SMALL BUT SIGNIFIGANT by DR. STAN BLEVINS
On occasion the smallest things bring about the largest results. Jesus taught that "faith the size of a mustard seed" could "move mountains" (Matthew 17:20). We all understand the powerful effect of a tiny rock in our shoe, or a single nail in a tire on our automobile. So why do we think we must make large changes in our lives for the results to be meaningful? A small change, made in response to the leading of your Savior, can be very significant. Take a step toward tithing; God will honor it. Share Christ with someone just once a week; it will bless you. Make a habit of speaking well of your church and inviting people to come with you; it will change your life and theirs. In 1992, Delta Airlines decided to stop serving a single leaf of lettuce with their in-flight meals. It was primarily for appearance sake anyway. Their passengers kept receiving the same meals, but without one piece of lettuce. Delta has received no complaints about the change; not a single one. But removing that piece of lettuce has saved Delta Airlines $1.5 million a year. Small but significant. What could you do, in your life, for your Savior, that would be wonderfully meaningful but require just a simple decision? Changing things like one's attitude, priorities, or vocabulary begins with a small but determined commitment. In everyone's life there is the potential for change that is small but significant. Remember: "Small leaks sink big ships." But it works the other way, too, and it is always better to "light one small candle than to curse the darkness." |
